In first grade children work with tens and ones, add and take away within 20, find missing numbers, tell time to the hour and half hour, and split shapes into halves and fourths. In reading they sound out short words, learn blends, digraphs, silent e and vowel teams, read short sentences and stories, and write a first sentence of their own.

ZUNBIX has 55 1st grade skills across math, reading, science, social studies, coding and art, and twelve games that all pitch themselves at 1st grade, then move up or back with your child.

1st Grade games

Every game is free to play at 1st grade. Here is what each one practises for a 1st grader.

Questions parents ask

Is ZUNBIX really free for 1st grade?

Yes. All twelve games, every lesson and the parent dashboard are free. There is no subscription and nothing to buy: the coins children earn are pretend and only unlock outfits, pets and trophies inside ZUNBIX.

Does my 1st grader need an account or an email address?

No sign-up is needed to play. Your child makes a player with a first name or nickname and a grade, and it is saved in this browser. If you want progress kept across devices, a grown-up can sign in on the parents page. Children never sign in and never give an email address.

Are there ads or chat?

No. ZUNBIX shows no adverts, has no chat or messages and no public leaderboards, and shows nothing about your child to other players. The children's privacy page sets out exactly what is stored.

What 1st grade math does ZUNBIX cover?

14 math skills for 1st grade: Place Value, Addition & Subtraction, Measurement & Data, Geometry, Fair Shares. Each one is matched to the Common Core standards for the grade, with hints before answers and a worked explanation after a miss.

What 1st grade reading does ZUNBIX cover?

15 reading and language skills for 1st grade: Phonics, Sight Words, Sentence Building, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Punctuation, Writing. They are matched to the Common Core English Language Arts standards for the grade.

What if my child is ahead of or behind 1st grade?

The grade is only where ZUNBIX starts. A short starting check in math and reading finds the right level, every round moves up or back with your child's answers, and a gap points back to the earlier skill it needs. You can change the grade at any time.

Can my child play before they can read?

Yes. For 1st grade every question is read aloud, answers come with pictures (3 big choices at a time), and nothing is timed.

How long should a 1st grader play?

A practice round is 6 questions, a few minutes. Grown-ups can set a daily goal on the parents page, and the dashboard shows what was practised, what has stuck and what is worth another round.

Does it work on a tablet or Chromebook?

Yes. ZUNBIX runs in the web browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones, so there is nothing to download or install.

More on what is stored and why on the children’s privacy page, and progress for each child on the parents page.
